Frequently asked questions

How do we book and pay, and what if we have to cancel?

You book by confirming the date. You then receive a confirmation invoice for 50 %, and once it is paid, the date is yours. The rest is paid six months before the wedding; if you book later than that, everything is paid at once. There is no deposit. If you have to cancel, the refund follows the terms and conditions, counted from date to date: the earlier you cancel, the more you get back. See the Terms & Conditions.

What is included in the hire, and what do we arrange ourselves?

The hire includes the manor house with 23 beds, bed linen and towels, WiFi, electricity, heating and final cleaning, and the barn with tables and chairs for 149 guests: 18 round tables, the long tables, which are table-and-bench sets, a fire grill, a scissor lift and a toilet trailer with two toilets. You arrange catering, drinks, tableware, tablecloths, lighting in the barn, decoration and music, and you choose your own suppliers. Frederik can name local options, but they are not recommendations.

Where is the celebration held, and how many guests can we invite?

The celebration is held in the manor barn. There is room for 149 guests at long tables, and with round tables it works best with at most 128.

Where can the guests sleep?

23 guests sleep in the manor house, across 11 bedrooms, so both families can stay under one roof. The Major's House can be added and sleeps 9 more, and with it comes room for up to 5 tents in the garden by the house. Other guests can stay at Hotel Saxkjøbing or Danhostel Sakskøbing (10 min), Milling Hotel Søpark in Maribo (12 min) or Bandholm Badehotel (16 min). These are local options, not recommendations.

Are there limits on how the manor house is used?

The manor house is your home for the weekend and is kept for the people closest to you: both families under one roof with room to spare, and perhaps your best friends. The house cannot take a party or a reception, so only the guests invited to stay the night use it. Your caterer is welcome to use the kitchen. That is how we look after Agerup together.

Where is the ceremony held, and what if it rains?

The ceremony is held in the park south of the manor house, ideally with acoustic music. If it rains, the ceremony and the reception move into the barn, which is always ready. Party pavilions may stand in the park, and tents on the paving by the orangery. The marriage itself you arrange with the church, if one of you is a member of the Church of Denmark (Folkekirken), or with Guldborgsund Municipality.

When can we arrive, and when do we leave?

The estate is yours from 8 am on Friday until 10 pm on Sunday. Extra days can be added from the Tuesday before until the Tuesday after; most couples choose Thursday. Frederik checks you in himself, and the cellar door has a code lock, so you need no keys.

What rules apply to the celebration?

In the barn, music may play until 4 am on the wedding night, and by the orangery until 11 pm. In the garden, music is acoustic and only for the ceremony. Confetti, rice and fireworks are not allowed, but soap bubbles and sparklers are welcome. Dogs are welcome by arrangement.

How is the barn laid out, and is it wheelchair accessible?

The barn is about 28 × 11.5 m and is divided with stage curtains, so the room the celebration is held in is about 12 m long. There is plenty of power and water, a fridge and a freezer, but no lighting: string lights hang from the fixed wires. The barn is level with its surroundings and wheelchair accessible; only in the manor house might guests need a hand.

How do we and our guests get to Agerup?

Agerup is about 140 km and 1 hour 35 minutes from Copenhagen, and about 3 hours from Hamburg with the Puttgarden–Rødby ferry. The nearest station is Sakskøbing, 5 km away. Nymand Busser can run a shuttle for your guests; VIKINGBUS is another option. Guests park along Nyskoven, which keeps the cars out of the photos.

How do we arrange a tour?

Write via the contact form, or call Frederik. He always shows you around himself, and a tour takes 1 to 1.5 hours. If you come by train, he picks you up at the station.

Who owns Agerup?

Frederik and Lea Reventlow. The Reventlow family has been connected to Agerup since 1799, and Frederik's grandparents bought the estate in 1955. Frederik is your host.
